Azur, our language assistant

Hi, I am Azur Tubigon. I am from the Philippines. I studied Psychology but I have passion in Early Education. Now, I am the current Language Assistant of CEIP Pintor Joan Miro. I came to know the school because I volunteered in school year 2016-2017. I loved the people here. They are very friendly and they are great, amazing teachers. I hope to work more years in this lovely school and I wish CEIP Pintor Joan Miro success in the future. Many thanks!

Tourist Interviews

Last December 5, the Grade 6e went to the heart of the city, Palma City Centre, to conduct an interview to the tourists. This project has been done for the past 2 years and has been proven to be very successful, especially developing the student´s vocabulary and  pronunciation in English as well as developing their self-confidence. Before we embark to this project, we spent several hours in constructing basic tourist related questions and off course, correcting them, too. We were able to come up with ten questions and each group has its own recorder, both video and audio.

We were accompanied with Tomeu, Azur, our Language Assistant and two university practicum, Luis and Marta.  It was a sunny day and most of the tourists we have interviewed were very friendly and even impressed with the student´s ability to interview.

The following week, we have reviewed the videos and it made the students happy, even made them smile of what they were doing behind the camera. We are looking forward to continue this project in the next school year. You can watch our video by clicking the video link below. Thanks for reading and keep posted!

Brown bear, brown bear, what do you see?

Brown Bear, Brown Bear, what do you see?

This simple story is one of the best to tell to the young ones. The book is designed to help toddlers associate colors and meanings to objects, so they learn about animals and colours.

It features a Brown Bear, Red Bird, Yellow Duck, Blue Horse, Green Frog, Purple Cat, White Dog, Black Sheep, a Goldfish, a Teacher and  Children.

Our 4th grade's pupils read that story and sing it in order to make easy learning the lyrics. After all, they get ready to tell it to the little ones!

Look at the pictures:

Speaking English with Jessica

My name is Jessica. I am from Melbourne, Australia and I am 26 years old. I really enjoy eating sushi and going on adventures around the world. I also think that summer is a lot better than winter. I have worked at CIEP Pintor Joan Miro for two years.

At the beginning of every class I spend time chatting to the children in English. I get to learn about the countries they are from and about their lives at home. The chidlren also get to ask questions to me and learn about my life in Australia and outside of school.

My favourite activities to complete are creative, hands on activities where we create art. We also make a lot of video recordings and watch them as a class. Sometimes we go otuside of the school on excursion to practice speaking in English.

We started a project this week to learn about animals and their habitats. We used the Amazing Animal Adventure book to teach us. We learned that different animals live in different places.

We learned about the habitats called the rainforest, the desert, the savanna, the mangrove forest, the Great Barrier Reef and finally, the ocean.

We learned about the animals that live in these habitats and chose one to write a description of. We used vocabulary we learned in class to write about what the animals looked like, what they can do and where they live.

Then, in partners we gave an oral presentation to the class about the animal descriptions:

Some of the animals we talked about were the blue whale, the fishing cat, the peacock shrimp, the clown fish, the scarlet macaw..... all of them are amazing animals!
